The rivalry just got even more intense. The New York Jets are filing tampering charges against the Super Bowl champions and fellow rivals, the New England Patriots.
Things have been sketch between the two teams as past reports of the Patriots stealing the Jets playbook and going after former Jets players in the free agent market to, allegedly, gain and advantage against them. One case being the most recent when Patriots went after cornerback Darrelle Revis who started his career and legacy with the Jets, only to let him go after one season. Robert Kraft stated at the NFL Owners meeting:
“I speak as a fan of the New England Patriots; we wanted to keep him, we wanted him in our system. We had hoped it worked out. It didn’t.
We have to factor that we don’t just look at this year, we look out at the next few years. We’ve done OK doing that.
Bill [Belichick] wanted him. When you’ve got a budget, there’s certain things you can’t do, and we have a budget. And in the end we’ll judge it by what the results are.”
But here’s where it gets even more messy. The Patriots turn around and also file a tampering charge against the Jets due to owner Woody Johnson, earlier this year, expressing interest in bringing “Revis Island” back to New York. Keep your ears and eyes open to see how this plays out. Either way, this just made the rivalry even more exciting. Good play, NFL *in my conspiracy voice”.
