Last night the season premiere of Celebrity Apprentice caught viewers and cast members by surprise after Keshia Knight-Pulliam was “fired” after refusing to call Bill Cosby to make a charitable donation. Keisha was the project manager for the woman’s team and was to ensure that everyone did their part to help raise money and win the challenge against the men’s team. Although teammates and Donald Trump wanted Keisha to call Cosby for a donation, she refused stating that she hasn’t spoken to him in years and only sees him during reunion specials.
“I have not talked to Bill Cosby on the phone in I don’t know how long. For me to pick up the phone having not talked to you for five years, except for when we run into each other for a Cosby event, I feel that’s not my place to do.”
After standing her ground, Trump wasn’t feeling her excuse. He stated:
“You didn’t make one call that I really believe that if you’d called that gentleman he would have helped you, even if you hadn’t spoken to him in years. You were an amazing team with one of the most successful shows ever, so I think it would have been a good call to make for charity. You have to take responsibility.”
Keep in my mind that Celebrity Apprentice was filmed in March 2014, months before the Cosby rape scandal hit the media, so surely that wasn’t the reason why Keisha didn’t make the call.
So why didn’t Keisha call Bill Cosby? She stated in a recent interview with The Today Show:
“I thought that was really interesting because I know ‘The Cosby Show’ is in reruns, and everyone thinks that we’re this family that has dinner every Friday night. But the reality was I hadn’t spoken to Mr. Cosby. I felt that it would be tactless, very rude to call someone and be like, ‘Hey, so, let me have some money right now.’ Honestly, with the other checks I had lined up, I didn’t feel I needed to make that phone call.”
Do you think it was right for the Trump to fire Keisha just because she didn’t make that call?
