I for one am a huge fan and therefore supporter of a thick and bold winged eye look. It just so happens that this look is in for the Fall and yes, I’m excited! It is super versatile: you can change the color of your liner or have a doubled-wing – the list definitely goes on!
I have 3 key tips to help you master this look and incorporate it into your Fall beauty regimen.
1. The Right Product – The key to creating perfect winged-eyes is the right product. There are many products on the market that are great ranging from drugstore to high-end designer liners. The key here is the formula: liquid or gel. Application with a liquid eyeliner may be easier for beginners, especially those with a felt tip, like the L’Oreal Infalliable The Super Slim liquid eyeliner (my personal fav). Also, if you are seeking something for quick and precise application, a liquid eyeliner may be perfect for you. Gel formulas take a bit more practice and are less forgiving than liquids. Benefit Cosmetics has tried to make application with gel-liners a little easier with their Push-Up eyeliner in that you are getting the gel formula in a tube with a rubber angled applicator – similar to a liquid eyeliner, making application easier and more precise than with a brush.
2. Hand Position – This is important for ensuring a precise line. The key here is to elevate your arm so that your hand is at the same level of your eye. In other words, you do not want your arm to droop or you risk an uneven line. Also, remember while elevating your arm is key, having a steady hand is important; practice and confidence with your application will help here.
3. Take it Slow – Slow and steady wins the race, at least until you are comfortable. I recommend starting with short strokes from the inner corner of your eye and out. Once you get to the outer corner, I recommend drawing your wing and connecting it to your original line or your ‘baseline’. Continue to repeat this step until you have achieved the thickness you desire.
If you follow these tips, I guarantee you will be on your way to perfect winged-eyes!
