Magic Mike was suppose to be a one trick pony on the grand scale of movies. So when a sequel was announced, speculation and not anticipation was the name of the game. Could a film about male strippers…we mean male entertainers really be a hit twice? Well if you bet “yes” then you deserve your own Channing Tatum lap dance, because this film was phenomenal! Magic Mike XXL packs it all! This time around Mike (Channing Tatum) is back, but not as you would expect him. He has retired from the stripping world and opted to become a businessman, opening his own custom furniture company. However, he finds his life is missing something and opts to find it when the remnants of The Kings of Tampa call him with their own brand of “serious news.” Mike opts to hit the road with his old friends for one last hayride to a stripper convention in Myrtle Beach. On the way the group makes some unexpected pit stops, while making new friends. Mike, however, reacquaints himself with a woman who truly put the “Magic” to his Mike.
This movie was hot--no homo (LOL)! Everyone knows male strippers have dance moves, but this was stripping meets Step It Up. Channing definitely still has all his dance moves and the sex appeal to make a straight man question his sexuality. This coupled with the other amazing and talented Kings of Tampa; Big Dick Richie (Joe Manganiello), Tarzan (Kevin Nash), Ken (Matt Bomer), and Tito (Adam Rodriguez) make this one of the summer’s break out hits. These guys were more then friends, they are brothers. The memories they made on this trip are the kind you treasure for a lifetime.
However, some of their thunder was stolen by a few unexpected additions to their act that “diversified” the cast. Enter Rome (Jada Pinkett-Smith), Andre (Donald Glover), and Malik (Stephen Boss). Rome is a former lover of Mike’s who gives its show the intro it needs in the big leagues. Andre will sing and dance into your own. Finally, Malik is the yang to Mike’s yin! You have to see these two work the stage--it’s a spiritual experience!
All and all, this film has it all--love, fun, drama, and ENTERTAINMENT! Be sure you check it out in theaters nationwide TODAY!
