Pia Mia was announced as the new face and first-time fashion director of Madonna’s Material Girl. Material girl is a line that is has been exclusively sold at Macy since 2010. The products are aimed to 16- to 21-year-olds with garment priced around $20 to $70. The brand includes dresses, jumpsuits, biker jackets, activewear, and footwear. Pia Mia Perez, her given name, is an up-and-coming pop princess from Guam.
The 19-year-old pop star has four million followers on Instagram. Perez also has a recent feature in Nylon Magazine. She has recorded over 100 songs for her debut album and has already collaborated with Chris Brown, Tyga, and Will. i. am. Her song “Do it Again” reach 71 on Billboards top 100 in the US.
“Her creativity, confidence and unique sense of style make her a perfect addition to the brand,” said Madonna in an official statement. This isn’t the first time music has met fashion with Material Girl brand. Zendaya, Rita Orita, and Kelly Osborne have also been faces of the brand. But, Perez holds more responsibility than previous spokesmen. She will star in campaign ads, make public appearances at Macy locations, and provide creative consulting on the spring 17 collection. The partnership is contracted for 16 months.
Perez told Women’s Wear Daily she has been wearing Material Girl since she was 13-years-old.. She said she admires Madonna because of her confidence really attracted me and she can pull anything off. “I take risks with fashion and Madonna always does, so she inspires me in that way. And I love her music like everyone else.”
