One NBA player is getting the Jeremy Lin “Linsanity” treatment after stepping into the spotlight on the biggest stage in the NBA: the finals. This Australian baller who goes by the name of Matthew Dellavedova, has opened a lot of eyes, even the eyes of his own hometown.
Dellavedova has started a craze around the world as his aggressive, relentless, and energetic play has helped lift the Cleveland Cavaliers since all-star guard Kyrie Irving went down with another knee injury. Dellavedova has made big plays on such a big stage so much that the Cavs have currently went up a game on the favorites to win the championship series: the Golden State Warriors. His tremendous defense on the league’s MVP, Stephen Curry, and hustle on the floor has sparked some fire under the team everyone thought would have no chance in winning against the Warriors after Irving went down. Now there is even bigger news for the new-found superstar.
CEO of the Central Goldfield Shire, a government area in Victoria, Australia, Mark Johnson told 3AW Breakfast that they are attempting to rename his hometown gym after him. “That’s where Matt Dellavedova learned his craft and the Maryborough Basketball Association have suggested that the stadium, which is a two-court stadium, ought to be renamed after Matthew,” Johnson said. “He’s certainly put Maryborough on the world map, it’s just fantastic. Obviously there’s a process to go through.”
Looks like the 24-year-old guard is about to be an endorsement phenom; especially if the Cavs win the series.
