Michelle Williams‘ Destiny’s Child days are behind her, but that does not mean she is going to let anyone talk smack about her girl, Beyonce. Michelle recently came to her former band mate and superstar singer, Beyonce’s, defense after some pretty negative commentary on her gospel performance at The Grammys from Christians. As you already, know Beyonce performed Take My Hand, Precious Lord alongside John Legend and Common. The spiritual was not only met with controversy due to the performers snubbing Ledisi, the original singer of the song in the movie Selma; but because many feel Beyonce is far too secular to sing such a song!
Michelle recently took to Twitter stating; “Was saddened to see someone I love subjected to hate and ridicule from so-called Christians and ministers this past weekend. I took notes,” Williams wrote. “I didn’t know only certain people could sing gospel. (Sarcasm) I speak about it because it’s done to me ALL the time! Yall can have it!” Michelle believes the beauty of performing comes from being able to do your own thing, despite other people’s opinions. “When you’re no longer looking for permission to do your calling, you’re no longer looking for permission to be who you are,” Williams told The Christian Post about her definition of freedom last year. “You might be a goofy outgoing person, and people probably can’t handle your personality. But hey, that’s the way God made you.”
Well said Michelle! God got the glory and that is all that matters! check out Beyonce’s performance below.
