Mona Scott under scrutiny by Black Greeks for new show ‘Sorority Sisters’

The genesis of Mona Scott Young’s career is impressive.  She was the creative force behind the scenes of celebrities careers such as Missy Elliot and 50 Cent.  However, her latest endeavors with Monami Entertainment Company, as they teamed up with VH1, has left a lot to be desired.

Commonly known for producing ‘Love and Hip Hop”  this show has proved to be a kerfuffle of stereotypes most black people attempt to stray away from.  While many watch it, eve in disdain, most have just thrown their hands up and accepted the show for what it is.  Unfortunately for Mona, her latest project ‘Sorority Sisters’ wasn’t met with the same fate.

‘Sorority Sisters’ has received backlash amongst the black fraternity and sororities as a whole due to its grossly stereotypical misrepresentations of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho who were highlighted in the show’s trailer.  It caused such an uproar that the trailer was removed from the site, according to Huffington Post.  The divine nine isn’t here for it!

Taking it a step forward, Reynoir Lewis launched a MoveOn Petition to stop Mona:

Stop the spread of ignorance and stereotyping of our beloved Black Greek letter organizations. Our founders amongst EVERY organization worked extremely hard to allow us to unite and flourish not only on college campuses, but as a people well beyond our college days, and Mona Scott-Young now threatens to demolish those aims and goals we all abide by. If this show airs, we will boycott any and all advertisers affiliated with the show through commercial advertising, product placement and/or location use. *I, Reynoir Lewis, will be personally delivering these signatures to the President Philippe Dauman and the Executive Chairman Sumner M. Redstone.* Thank you for your support.

Some things are sacred and should be left alone.  Black fraternities and sororities pride themselves on brotherhood and sisterhood, two things which lack in Mona shows.  I’m all for getting a check, but at what point do you realize you’ve gone too far?  I’m not saying it’s her intent to make the show messy but seeing her track record thus far, one can only assume.
