Too much and not enough, A snapshot of the BET Awards 2014 Red Carpet.

When I think of network awards shows such as the BET or MTV awards, I think the look should convey a fresh, young, fun and well-styled appearance. I do not expect Oscar or Met Gala black tie fanfare, but I also would not want to see the stars dressed for a cookout. I would expect attendees to dress as if they were guests at a really nice cocktail party. These group of gorgeous starlets look as if they are attending three different events. Let’s take a look at some stars who nailed the look, those a tad overdressed and some who kept it very, very chill for the 2014 BET awards.

Paris Hilton and Ashanti rocked their Michael Costello originals beautifully in the white-hot color of the night. However they may have been a tad overdressed for the event. Personally, I would not do floor-length at this type of awards show.

Draya and KeKe Palmer got their BET red carpet looks just right. I love the sexy, edgy but playful looks. These dresses could go from cocktails to the club which seems perfect for this type of event.

Tinashe and Zendaya definitely look young and cute but too casual for my taste. I think the BET Awards warrant a little more effort than this. While these are, of course, designer looks, they seem more appropriate at a car and bike show than an awards show.

Randomness seemed the theme of the night as stars varied in looks from tuxedos to sneaks, gala gowns to jeans. Lots of young Black hip-hop/Hollywood rocked white for the evening, which is always on trend for the summer, but this was the only thread of commonality I saw in this group’s attire.
