The NBA All-Star Weekend in New York just came to a close and we already have huge news. New York Knick Amar’e Stoudemire has seen his last days in the New York orange and blue.
Frank Isola from New York Daily News tweeted the following statement just minutes after all-star weekend wrapped up: “The Amar’e Stoudemire era is over in New York. The Knicks and Amar’e reached a buyout agreement tonight, sources tell the NY Daily News.” – @FisolaNYDN
The six-time all-star is expected to clear waivers by Wednesday and could be in a new uniform by Thursday. Stoudemire’s ride with the Knicks hasn’t gone as planned when the Knicks signed the free agent back in 2010. Stoudemire has only appeared in nine playoff games and has won only two of them. And with the season going the way it is for the Knicks, that record isn’t going to get any better being that they will definitely miss the playoffs this year.
Rumor is that Western conference playoff-bound teams like the Mavericks, Clippers, Warriors and Spurs are in the market for a big man to come off the bench and contribute. There is no word for sure but, we can almost bet it won’t be long before someone snatches Stoudemire off the free agent market.
It looks like the Knicks are continuing to clear house to prepare for young new talent. We shall see.
