The sunlight in your eyes, the sand between your toes, the tide running against your feet –Spring/Summer 2014 is inspired by a life on the Malibu beach. A stroll along the shore inspires ethnic motifs grounded in a modernist palette of black, white, and ochre.A burst of poppy and fuchsia echoes the warmth of the California sun. Sumptuous fabrics like silk and suede add a tactile appeal caressing and pampering the skin.
A shift in mood turns to dreamlike ozone diffused by sea vapor and charged by sun rays turning the Pacific sky into a color field awash in pale pink and cream. Sparkling reflections of sunlight on the water’s surface is rendered in pearlescent, enriching the soothing sky with a hint of shine. The shapes for this mood are free and fluid ,exuding a casual elegance and purist femininity; washed silk and lace dance around the body as they flutter in the wind.
But what could Malibu be without surf? Surf culture defines the very essence of Malibu and this season it takes center stage. Crashing blue waves define a palette of aqua and turquoise. Prints range from Spanish tile at the bottom of a crystal ocean side pool to there fractions of light and shadow within the sweeping waves. Details from swimwear and bodysuits make their way into daywear adding an active touch made glamorous by the carefree vibe and barefoot luxury that could only be had on the Malibu beach.
