A few days ago, Chanel Fall-Winter 2014-2015 runway show was taking place at the Grand Palais in Paris and was breathtaking as expected.
As it relates to shoes and colors, Lagerfeld opted for simplicity and softness to associate with the designs of his last Fall-Winter 2014-2015 collection. Whether they were boots or sandals, models wore flats usually embellished with a bow. From grey, to mauve, to the classic black, red and white, the color palette remained somber and classic also.
Yet, some extravagances such as a few silver and gold threads added into the classic Chanel tweed and tartan along with some feathers and fur caught our attention on the catwalk.
However, the prestigious designer took his inspiration to another level when it came to shapes and volumes. While the well known very boxy shoulder cut was still used, the rest of the body shapes were a little bit different from what we are used to seeing in Chanel’s collections.
The waistline had more roundness, the hip more fullness and the Bermuda shorts made a come back worn under most of the dresses and skirts.
For his grand final, Lagerfeld presented his Renaissance inspired bridal dress. The wide white gown, decorated with imposing central embroidery and gold central buttons also included a majestic cape. Like the last seasons when Karl Lagerfeld surprised us with a bride wearing tennis shoes or the gay bridal couple, Karl chose this time a pregnant lady to wear his empire silhouette bridal gown.
Does Lagerfeld, just as Gabrielle Chanel in her own time, try to show rebellion and arrogance in his collections? Or do you think Lagerfeld’s choices are too risqué and audacious, tarnishing Gabrielle Chanel’s image? What are your thoughts about Chanel showing a pregnant bride on the runway?
