Fashion rebel Philipp Plein has become famous for his edgy designs and over-the-top fashion shows.
For his first resort show, Philipp Plein chose the illustrious Cannes, France to showcase his collection in front of 250 of his celebrity and fashion friends. The collection, however, differed slightly from his normal aesthetic. Naturally if you’re going to a Philipp Plein show you can expect to get a healthy dose of his street couture style. Past collections have seen his collections covered in studs and chains. Though this collection didn’t wain in the urban glam department, his use of florals instead of chains and studs was a unique departure. Red and pink flowers graced pants, dresses, jackets as well as jeans and bikini tops.
The coed show was versatile in it’s message. For the women, it’s femininity with the florals balanced perfectly with its message of feminism with military jacket’s that had “He offered her the world… She said she had her own” emblazoned across the back. For the men’s look he offered casual, yet chic, subtle, yet incredibly flashy options for nights out on the town. Ripped denim outfits meshed well with the leather jackets and jeans covered in dollar signs and floral prints. On the runway, Philipp Plein spared no expense with his choice of models. Plein favorites Paris Hilton and Jeremy Meeks aka “The Hot Felon” made cameos along with socialite Sofia Richie.
One could say that Philipp Plein has seemed to mature with this collection. The German designer, who in the past has had everything from Monster Truck shows to full basketball games to entertain his guests, this time chose the La Jungle Du Roi to do the talking for him. However, the closing model, Winnie Harlow, posing while having dollar signs spray painted on her could also be seen as a sort of performance art. Another job well done is all one could think as he made his finale walk with boxer Floyd Mayweather in tow. And who knows, this time next year could see everyone walking the streets covered in dollar signs.
