Legendary performer Prince kicked off the weekend at the Essence Festival on Friday July 4th.
Nearly 50,000 people attended his show at the Mercedes Superdome in New Orleans, LA. Prince also had a gig at the festival back in 2004, when he was roller skating around stage in a disguised get up. This year the performer, had Janelle Monae and Nile Rodgers perform for his line up. He appeared in both of the musicians acts; During Monae’s song “Lets Go Crazy” and Rogers cover of the song “Lets Dance.”
Prince began his set with his hits like Let’s Go Crazy,” “Take Me With U,” the Time’s “Cool” “Jungle Love,” “Hot Thing,” “Controversy,” “Kiss,” Vanity 6’s “Nasty Girl,” “Sign o’ the Times,” “When Doves Cry,” “Raspberry Beret,” “Hot Thing,” and “1999.” He even paid tribute to Michael Jackson with the song “Don’t Stop a Until a You Get Enough.”
Prince was on his purple lit up stage with his 60’s get up. He ended his performance at 1:00 am with an encore of the song Purple Rain.
