With the media hype around the altercation between rapper Jay Z and singer Solange, there has been a plethora of social media flack geared towards Jay Z. It’s been said that he should have hit back and defended himself and since he didn’t the word PUNK has come up! Now let us rewind back to the Chris Brown and Rihanna situation where on the reverse he did physically hit her and the word PUNK and the words less of a man were used to describe him! Is the situations difference because there is video proving that Jay Z did not hit Solange back, and with Chris Brown and Rihanna there is only the surge of pictures showing the aftermath of what illustrated a beat up Rihanna? I do not think so.
Domestic Violence is wrong for any party. It does not make it right for a woman to hit a man, or vice versa. Many times women are praised for hitting a man back in a domestically violent situation but the reverse is not true for a man to defend himself. Not back to the elevator scene involving Jay Z and Solange. This is his wife’s sister. This is his family. Why on earth would he do anything to jeopardize his family by hitting his wife’s sister? There is no audio of what the world was shown through video, so we are left to speculate what caused the rift. It could have very well been a misunderstanding, frustration and misplaced anger on Solange’s part.
Now I am not giving all innocence to Jay Z. He could have very well said something disrespectful to either his wife, Beyoncé or her sister Solange. Who knows, there could be problems in the Carter Empire. What we do know is that Solange was obviously upset about something and when faced with the choice to hit back or refrain, Jay Z took the true manly approach and refrained from reacting! That takes a lot more courage and will power than just reacting. Solange could have been upset but there are more ways than violence to display your frustration.
