After the shocking death of Prince that hit news yesterday it’s only right to honor a legend. In his loving memory, the iconic 1984 film Purple Rain is returning to theaters this weekend. According to Variety.com, AMC has partnered up with Warner Bros. to screen the film in 87 locations across the country starting tomorrow, April 23rd through Thursday 28th.
Purple Rain, who which the title of the film and album both share the same name, is one of Prince’s best know work and what shot him to fame. The film is about a semi-autobiography story about a young musician known as “The Kid,” who in order to be happy decides to escape his unhappy home to set out and become a famous rock star. The film won an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score and tracks from the film such as “Let’s Go Crazy” and “When Doves Cry” went to the top of the Billboard charts. Purple Rain will remain a classic and we are truly saddened by Prince’s sudden departure. If you have a chance to see it theaters take the opportunity to absorb this multi-talented icon, known as Prince.
