Rayan Lawrence is a brilliant up and coming actor, who’s resume continues to grow with dope roles from today’s most popular television and film projects. From Blue Bloods to Barbershop 3, Underground and the newly anticipated Tupac biopic All Eyez On Me, Lawrence’s resume is pretty lit, to say the least. Check out what this star on the rise has to come for fans this upcoming summer and where you’ll see him next on the big screen.
Lawrence a Brooklyn native, and of Jamaican decent didn’t always have acting as his number 1 choice of career. In fact, growing up a younger Lawrence had dreams of becoming an FBI Agent and even a writer.
“You know growing up I wanted to be an FBI Agent, but then things changed and I wanted to be an actor. With acting, I can be whoever and whatever I want to be. So being able to dive into these different characters for a period of time is just an amazing experience for me.”
Lawrence is currently starring in Underground on WGN where he plays Elliot an abolitionist, who’s a part of the Lawrence Boys who helps free slaves. Lawrence goes on to explain what fans can expect this season on Underground.
“You can expect the same action packed adventure that you got from season 1, but taken to another level, especially my character Elliot and his crew. They’re part of the Lawrence boys some of John Brown’s, (who was a white abolitionist) devoted followers. Plus you get to see Harriett Tubman played by Aisha Hinds this season as well. So it’s going to be really good.”
In recent news, Lawrence will also be starring in one of the most anticipated biopics this year and definitely a #Summer17 hit to be, All Eyez On Me, a Tupac biopic. Lawrence will play Hip-Hop legend Trench who is 1/3 of trio group Naughty By Nature, and also Tupac’s long best friend.
“Being on set was an amazing experience. It was amazing playing such a legend in Hip Hop, and you’re going to see me spit a little rap in the film with lyrics that I got personally from Trench himself as well.” Lawrence continues, “One time imparticular working with the actor who plays “Humpty Hump” and Khadija Copeland who plays Queen Latifah, putting our stories together on how we got our roles and sharing moments was just an amazing experience. So it was a pleasure working with them and of course Benny Boom and L.T. Hutton, they knew Tupac and Trench so being able to work with them and take notes and direction was amazing as well.”
Most know Tupac for being the revolutionist bad boy rapper throughout his short career, the biopic is slated to depict all aspects of the rappers rise and fall throughout his life. As anticipation grows and time winds down on the release of All Eyez on Me, Lawrence talks about one of his favorite moments while filming on set.
“It’s definitely going to be moments in the film where you’re going to be like wow, I didn’t know that really happened. Demetrius Shipp Jr. did a great portrayal of Tupac in this film. My favorite part watching him do his scenes is the fact that if you take a profile look at him, he looks just like Pac.”
Production and fan anticipation has been long underway for the release of this film, and after three directors, lawsuits and pushbacks, Tupac’s story will finally be told to the mass June 17th. Lawrence goes on to explain why fans should mark their calendars for the release of this film.
“This film will definitely live up to the hype and anticipation. When you look at the actors that have been cast to play these legendary characters the resemblance is there. As well as the fact that Benny Boom and Morgan Creek Productions have seen how important casting is from movies like Straight Outta Compton, there definitely going to try and match that or do better. So this is one film that’s definitely going to go down in the history books.”
You can catch Lawrence in All Eyez On Me, June 17th and you can also catch him in an upcoming film featuring DMX and KeKe Palmer titled PIMP. Also, don’t forget Underground comes on every Wednesday 10/9C on WGN. For more info on Lawrence and his many projects follow his social media pages Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat @rayanlawrence.
