R&B Legends SILK Resurged

R&B Legends SILK Resurged

The 90s R&B group that blazed the scene with hits like “Freak Me Baby”, “Happy Days”, and “Lose Control”, is now resurging into to the music scene with a vengeance! With their latest début single entitled “Love 4 U 2 Like Me” off of their upcoming Quiet Storm album, SILK shares with Kontrol Magazine about why they chose this single as their pilot track and about what’s been happening with the group since they’ve been away.

Gary Glenn AKA “Big G” says that they felt that this was a good re-introduction song for several reasons: 1 – “We feel like there are many things on the album that are going be familiar to our fans – Things they will relate to.” 2 – “The producer Wiley Morris has had some recent success with Charlie Wilson, New Edition, and Keith Sweat. He has done some things that have placed him consistently near the top of the Urban ACD Charts and we wanted to find the right balance to re-introduce ourselves.” The full album “Quiet Storm” is scheduled to be released on March 18, 2016 via Silk Entertainment/Shanachie Entertainment. And contrary to what most think, the group has been very busy over the years with performances all across the country, doing talent shows, clubs, singing in churches, in the streets, etc. Finally, the group collectively decided that this was the right time to drop their new music and show both their new and long-time fans that SILK is back!

These guys have put in much thought and energy to make sure that their comeback is felt among thepublic. Their aim on this new project is to not only produce amazing music, but to also show their versatility as music artists. Renowned for their popular “baby-making” songs and their unashamed verses on former projects, the group shares that this album will definitely display some of those same types of songs, but will also be a mixture of character music as well. In fact “We’ve always felt like it’s important to be true to who you are as artists”, they explain. They go on to share how during their time out of the mainstream’s eye, the group has remained busy preparing for now and that is has taken “a lot of intricate preparation and decisions to be made, with selecting songs, etc., to be sure that true 90s R&B is re-presented in the right way. We want to be the spearhead in bringing back true R&B music and bringing it back in a phenomenal way.”

Along with working on the new music, SILK also shares that this is their first album that comes up under SILK Entertainment and is a self-contained venture. With aspirations of becoming CEO’s and entrepreneurs in the industry to not only do music, but to also nurture upcoming artists, Gary Jenkins AKA “Lil G” shares the team’s dream to take it to another level. Artist development and mentorship is another aspect that they intend to establish through SILK Entertainment. I also had a chance to ask the group if they considered making a gospel album. They shared how they get that question all the time. And with deep ties to the church and all of the ones they have sung at all around the city, to sing about God’s goodness and blessing in their lives would be without question. They concluded that this is perhaps something that they may seriously consider in the future of SILK.
