Rihanna, has been putting in (sing it with me) Work, Work, Work, Work, Work! The recent launch of her uber successful cosmetic line, Fenty Beauty, a BMX fashion show, and on Thurs., Sept. 14th, Rihanna showed up stunning in a black high-low ball gown to play hostess at her Third Annual Diamond Ball in New York. And of course, her Super Star friends came to support a great philanthropic cause.
The Annual Diamond Ball, is a benefit to raise money for Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation. The Clara Lionel Foundation, was founded in 2012 by Rihanna, to honor her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. The non-profit organization benefits impoverished communities across the globe, with healthcare, education, and emergency response programs to improve the quality of life of young people.
The Stars showed up: Beyoncé and Jay-Z, Jamie Foxx, Lala, Cardi-B, Emily Ratajkowski, Lil’Kim, model Slick Woods, Imaan Hamman, Dave Chapelle, Leonardo DiCaprio, Rihanna’s extended family, and the list goes on. Our beloved (Number 44) President Barack O’bama, made a speech via video, thanking Rihanna.
“You’ve become a powerful force, in helping, people find hope and dignity”. -President Barack O’bama
The Black Diamond Ball was lit! Kendrick Lamar’s performance went into Friday morning, as he got the crowd on their feet, performing hits, “Humble”, “Alright”, and “Loyalty” which features Rihanna on the track, but this time she was in the audience dancing. Calvin Harris, who has also worked with Rihanna, kept the party going, performing, “We Found Love”, and “This Is What You Came For”.
The foundation even announced at the event they were among the first responders to assist those affected by Hurricane Harvey, and currently are working on how best to support the victims of Hurricane Irma.
Rihanna stated in an interview, at Cipriani Wall Street, “It’s exciting to come to New York for the first time. It’s the first Diamond Ball on the East Coast, and we’ve been dying to do something like this for years.”
“Now is the perfect time. September is Fashion Week. Everbody is here. And we hope that they are in the mood to give back.” -Rihanna
As the saying goes, “with power, comes great responsibility”. Rihanna, has definitely used her influential power, as a platform to help build and uplift our communities globally.
