Reality television is the modern world’s Roman Coliseum. The highs, lows, catfights, drama, fame, and flare entertain millions of people worldwide on a daily basis. Still few shows have the popularity or appeal of Bravo’s most popular series, The Real Housewives of Atlanta (RHOA)! This hit show introduced us to reality stars like Nene Leakes, Kim Zolciak, and Sheree Whitfield; and reintroduced the world to Kandi Buruss, Eva Marcille, and now Shamari DeVoe!

Yes, Shamari is the new girl in town, but she is not new to the game or spotlight, having been in the industry for over twenty years with her hit girl group, Blaque, and being married to Ronnie DeVoe of New Edition and Bel Biv DeVoe! “I’m here and I’m loving it! I’ve been off the scene for a little while, but when opportunity knocks I’m going to do what I need to do!”

Shamari DeVoe is the type of woman you want to count on your list of good friends. With her sweet nature, warm and inviting personality, and transparency, you cannot help but love her. In fact talking with her is like catching up with an old friend. As aforementioned we first came across Mrs. DeVoe back in 1999 when she ran the globe with Blaque, bopping their hit single, Bring It All To Me. “It was an amazing experience being a part of a girl group, and when things took off they really took off [she laughs]…I was really young back then, well I’m still young [she laughs], but I loved every minute of it.” Blaque was met with critical acclaim, but the group suffered some major highs and lows, with the lowest being the deaths of their mentor, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes,  group member and best friend, Natina Reed. “Losing them was really hard. Lisa was like a big sister to us, she really took us under her wing….Natina was my sister. Losing her was just so unexpected and devastating, and every year Brandi [Williams] and I make sure we honor her and keep her memory alive…I mean we never really are prepared to lose anyone, but for both of them to die so young just really puts it all in perspective for you…”

Life has definitely thrown Shamari some lemos, but with her debut on RHOA she is making it all lemonade and mixing it with a little tea, making her an excellent addition to the show. The other Housewives on the series are known to be feisty and a little catty, but Shamari assures us she is above the fray, but ready to take on an challenges or issue that arise. “I knew going into this it was not always going to be easy or fun, but it is a good opportunity and a chance to reintroduce myself to the world…Before I even considered it I talked it over with my husband, we weighed the pros and cons, and we prayed about it, and here we are.” Shamari’s addition to show brings some much needed balance to the show as her fun-loving, earthy demeanor serves as a stark contrast to some of the older, more snarkier members of the cast. As cool as she is, she has already had some disagreements with the other ladies, especially when it comes to their commentary on her fashion. “Listen, fashion is clothing and what you put on to cover your body. I get that it can be artistic and it’s very beautiful, but there’s so much more to me and to life than labels, designers, this trend, or that one…that materialistic stance and judgment is just a turn off and I’m not here for it.”

Shamari DeVoe wears the hats from many roles, but none are more important to her than being a wife and mother. She and Ronnie have been together for nearly twenty years, but married since 2006. She describes him as her rock and king, before delving into her controversial revelation of their formerly open marriage. “Well it was something we tried, and it just was not for us. At the end of the day I wanted my marriage and my husband, he’s who I love and who God put in this world for me. The whole situation brought us closer together because we truly knew we both wanted this. Nothing and no one was going to stop that.” She goes on to discuss her decision to discuss it on the show. “I believe in being transparent and open about my experiences. People can judge but they’ll miss out on the message and blessing we received from that experience.” It is Shamari’s openness about her marriage that has not only kept her marriage strong and thriving, but allowed her to help other couples. In fact, in 2019, she and Ron will be hosting marriage retreats for married couples of all orientations to learn from their experiences, receive counseling, and reconnect or strengthen their bond.

Shamari DeVoe, is definitely a woman on the go and the new “it girl” of RHOA. The only thing we are more excited about than her new reality star status is the new music she is making with Ronnie. In fact their single, Love Comes Through, debuted earlier this week to rave reviews. The couple plan to release more music together all the while parenting and caring for their twin boys. She advises any upcoming artists to “Above all else stay true to yourself and know that this is for you. When you know it and God approves it, who’s gonna tell you otherwise. You’ve just got to believe!”

Hey Mikey!

WHO AM I? That’s probably what you’re thinking? It’s simple I’m this generation’s “Dear Abby!” I was raised in the Fourth Ward of Atlanta, educated in the School of Hard Knocks, and rescued by the concrete and steel of New York City. Life at best will always be bittersweet. The sooner you accept that, the better off you’ll be. I’d prefer to be on your sweeter side. Everyone needs a listening ear, extra shoulder, and open arms when life gets rough. I’m your new best friend, whe it all goes south remember I’m a mouse click or tweet away. Hang in there kids, you’re gonna love kickin’ it with me!!! -MIKEY
