When it comes to talent some people have a little, and others are like royalty–endowed with the Lion’s Share. Shelea is definitely the latter! This beautiful and enigmatic songstress has the look and voice of angel and the longevity in an industry that currently churns out one-hit wonders. “I’m really blessed that I get to do what I love…you know this is a gift that I thank God for everyday, and I just want to continue ‘living my best life…” Shelea is truly a woman in “Kontrol” of her destiny and sat down with us to discuss her music, life, and what is next for her in 2020!

Shelea and Quincy Jones

There are a lot of amazing singers in the world, but very few of them make a living or name for themselves off of their talent. Shelea has been blessed to do both. Her voice is soulful, soothing, and in our opinion on par with greats like Deborah Cox and Tamia. However, she counts Aretha Franklin as her greatest musical inspiration. “I’ve been singing since I was a kid and I knew I wanted to do music my entire life…it has not been easy by any means, but it’s always been worthwhile…Yes, I think I have a great voice [she laughs]. God gave it to me so I know it’s good!” Shelea definitely has “The Voice” and “The Range,” as indicated by her being mentored by the great Quincy Jones! In fact, he has declared her “one of the greatest artists of her generation, “… after working with Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and Sarah Vaughan, you know when you see one– and Sheléa is really one.” “He [Quincy Jones] is a legend and to have him say something as powerful as that is humbling and I couldn’t ask for more. Words just can’t describe how much I respect him.” Shelea adds.

As we stated before Shelea has the “Lion’s Share” of talent, and that now extends to acting as she is set to appear in the upcoming biopic based on The Clark Sisters, “You Brought the Sunshine: The Story of The Clark Sisters.” The film will show how the sisters went on to becoming the most successful Gospel group in the world. Shelea will portray Dorinda Clark; starring alongside Christina Bell as Twinkie, Kierra Sheard as Karen, Raven Goodwin as Denise, and Angela Birchett as Jacky. “The cast is so amazing and the harmony is there! You know you go into a project not knowing what you are getting into, but these women came to make this film amazing…I’m so honored to be a part of it. The Clark Sisters are legends…I grew up in church and my father was a minister so I was very familiar with all of their music…I wanted to be sure I was honoring their legacy by doing a great job…” The Clark Sisters’ biopic is not only highly anticipated, but being executive produced by Mary J. Blige, Queen Latifah, and Missy Elliot! “Now you know it is going to be great when you have such big artists like them backing it up. It really makes you bring your A-game! Where else do you have Black women running things and winning in front of and behind the camera!” You Brought the Sunshine: The Story of The Clark Sisters” is set to air on Lifetime cable network in Spring 2020!

Shelea may very well be the epitome of a “woman who can do it all!” Singing, songwriting, acting! She’s a triple threat! She continues to be a shining star in everything she does, and we cannot wait to see what is next for her. “2020 is going to be an amazing year! Expect more music, the movie, and of course I’ll continue to evolve. God has blessed me my entire life I don’t foresee Him ever stopping that!”

Hey Mikey!

WHO AM I? That’s probably what you’re thinking? It’s simple I’m this generation’s “Dear Abby!” I was raised in the Fourth Ward of Atlanta, educated in the School of Hard Knocks, and rescued by the concrete and steel of New York City. Life at best will always be bittersweet. The sooner you accept that, the better off you’ll be. I’d prefer to be on your sweeter side. Everyone needs a listening ear, extra shoulder, and open arms when life gets rough. I’m your new best friend, where it all goes south remember I’m a mouse click or tweet away. Hang in there kids, you’re gonna love kickin’ it with me!!! -Michael Jonvier
