After 11 years on hit TV show Criminal Minds veteran, Shemar Moore, says goodbye to the series. Wednesday’s episode marked the final episode of Moore’s legendary character, Derek Morgan. Moore’s character decided to put his career on hold to focus on his family after a tragic scene. It may be the end of the road for Moore on the show but he decided to leave on a high note.
“It’s a weird experience,” tells Moore to The Hollywood Reporter. “I just spent 11 years with a group of people and it’s a weird thing to walk away from — but I did it on my terms and in the right way.”
Moore officially wrapped his time on Criminal Minds more than a month ago and has now spent the weeks re-watching some of the drama Derek-heavy episodes. He has also appreciated all final scenes filmed with co-stars Thomas Gibson (Aaron), Joe Mantegna (David) and Kirsten Vangsness (Penelope).
Although another chapter in his life has closed Moore is thankful of the long lasting opportunity. He had been mulling with the decision to leave for the past few seasons and the actor came to a final agreement as he is ready to stretch his wings.
“Young and the Restless gave me confidence and told me that I had a right to be here [in Hollywood],” he says. “I got popular there but I wanted credibility and to prove that I could act. What Criminal Minds did was help people see that I could handle drama — and keep my shirt on — and tell stories. Criminal Minds was college and now I’m ready for grad school and the next step.”
We are sad to see him leave but excited for his upcoming projects! Who else is ready to see Shemar Moore back on TV?
