Contrary to popular belief, a man’s shoe game is just as important as a woman’s. As the great men at GQ put it, “They reveal whether he takes pride in the little things. If he throws on a nice suit and pairs it with cheap, clunky lace-ups, he’s not what you’d call a detail man. And if he leaves his pricey wingtips scuffed and unpolished, he may not be the closer you’re looking for.”
There is nothing like looking at a well dressed and groomed man with busted shoes. It just ruins it for me. Every. Single. Time! One of the great things about being a man is that men do not have to have a smorgasbord full of shoe options like women. Having a few classic staples are all that is needed to make sure your shoe game is always on point.
Wingtips
And a great pair. Having a well-made pair of wing-tips in a man’s wardrobe is important because they are a classic pair of shoes that will never go out of style. If you want to splurge on a shoes, this is the kind to do it on. You can always have the soles repaired and the leather buffed.
Black Lace Ups
Having classic black lace up shoes are essential to a well rounded wardrobe. They can go with your suits, slacks and even to help dress up your jeans. They are the basic pair of shoes that you will find yourself gravitating to all the time.
Boots
I love a good boot on a man. This is almost like the black lace ups, but more trendy and edgier. You can certainly wear your boots with suits, slacks and jeans alike. They come in a variety of trendy styles that you can add to your wardrobe.
Loafers
A great loafer is great to round out your shoe repertoire. They are super comfortable and can be worn with just about anything. It is like a dressy sneaker. Be careful here, we don’t want your grandpa’s favorite loafer. Gravitate toward slim and rounded varieties; many designers are going in this direction opposed to the square toed ones that make me cringe with disgust!
Sneakers
And no, I’m not talking about air force ones either. I am talking about your cleaner and streamlined options. Think, can I wear this sneaker with a slim suit? This means a low top option, new balances are nice and Ralph Lauren has a couple that I love in different colors that won’t weigh down your outfit from all of the laces, straps and rubber.
I work a traditional 9-5 and I agree with having BOTH a pair of wingtips and black lace ups. but of course when Im off work i LOVE to switch it up with different snaekers/boots depending on the weather.
A mans shoe game must always be
I agree!
