On August 12th, Oxygen will premiere a new reality show called, Sisterhood of Hip Hop. Kontrol got a sneak peek into the season of the show, and this show is definitely worth the watch! Yes, it has the formula of the average reality show spread all over television; drama, struggle, and beautiful women, but this show has something that a lot of the popular shows don’t: purpose!
The new reality show follows the journey of 5 up and coming female rappers; high energy performer Nyemiah Supreme, dope beauty Bia, Atlanta superstar Diamond, college student raptress Brianna, and the first openly gay female rapper, Siya. Each female MC is mentored and managed by a heavy hitting artist. These artists include, Timbaland, Pharrell, Tank, Irv Gotti, and Rick Ross (just to name a few).
The great thing about this show is that it is shedding a lot of light to a community that typically gets over looked. The entertainment industry, especially rap culture, is heavily male dominated. Only a hand full of females is thriving. This show brings to our attention that there are a ton of talented female rappers eager to break on to the scene. It’s great to see that some of the biggest male hip hop artists, like Timbaland and Rick Ross, are devoted to seeing these rappers become successful.
However, with success comes sacrifice and drama! Immediate shade is presented in the show amongst the artists and personal relationships are hanging on by a thread. The clique of rappers has to sort out their personal dramas and beefs, all while trying to impress their bosses and build a legacy.
Sisterhood of Hip Hop is a must watch! Catch the season premiere on Oxygen starting August 12th at 9/8c.
