Our scalps tend to get very dry and flaky during cooler weather, which can make it harder to keep dandruff under control. Since fall has officially arrived and winter shortly to follow, now is the time to take action.
Generally dermatologist would suggest dandruff shampoos like Head and Shoulders, or in worst cases prescribe a medicated shampoo. But sadly sometimes shampoo isn’t enough to stop annoying dry scalp in its tracks.
There are actually other ways you can maintain a healthy and clean scalp without breaking the bank. We put together five easy scalp treatments that will keep you and your hair on good terms throughout the season. You can thank me later.
If your hair sucks up oil like a vacuum like mines, a moisturizing shampoo is definitely a must have. I love using Miss Jessie’s Creme De La Curl cleanser because it’s super moisturizing, smells great and most importantly it’s sulfate-free.
Another option besides a deeply moisturizing shampoo, is a anti-itch hair and scalp treat that can be used daily. This one by Design Essentials conditions the hair and scalp, and controls flaking.
I’ve used this oil since I was a child. Organic jojoba oil is great for your hair, skin and scalp. “Why organic?” you may ask. It is better in quality and of course, all natural. Massage jojoba oil into your scalp every other day to keep dryness at bay.
A cool trick I learned from one of my favorite Youtube beauty gurus Andrea from Andrea’s Choice, is using the yellow Listerine mouth wash to deal with dandruff. Simply pour the mouth wash into a spray bottle and spray it on at the roots of your hair only. After leaving in for 10 to 15 minutes, proceed to shampoo and condition your hair.
Apple cider vinegar is another great way to relieve dandruff, dry itchy scalp and product buildup in your hair. The components in ACV restores the ph balance of the scalp and keeps the overgrowth of fungus that causes dandruff in check.
Mix 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup of water. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and spritz your hair and scalp. Wrap a towel around your head and keep it on for 15 minutes to an hour. Then remove towel and wash your hair.
I am a fan of seabreeze and head and shoulders I will look into the other products
This is great! My dandruff seems to be more harsh in the cold seasons so this is perfect timing for these tips!
