How to Stop Stress Eating

I find myself always going to my comfort food, when I’m under mass amounts of anxiety. That  Ben & Jerry’s Cookies and Cream ice cream at 3 a.m never tasted so good, after cramming for a test that’s in the morning. All those Snickers bars that I ate back to back has helped me get over tough break ups as well. I guess you can say I am one of many that fall victim into “stress eating.”
There are many reason why someone might go to food to fill an emotional void, but there are some steps that someone can take to stop that bad habit. Here are some to follow:

Step 1
Identity what causes you to eat under stress

Problems at work, family drama, relationship problems, financial woes are all reason why one might be over eating. Knowing what actually causes you to eat all that chocolate at night, can help solve the problem.

Step 2
Find new things for comfort

Replacing the unhealthy things that comfort you with things that are good for you can also defeat the issues. Instead of buying ice cream, cakes and candy, you can indulge into fruits, veggies, and other healthier alternatives.  You can also start hitting the gym, when you’re feeling down. Exercise is one of the best stress relievers.

Step 3

Find Support

Ever heard of the saying “you are the company you keep?” Well having a supportive company can help make you feel so much better. A few words of encouragement can go a long way.

Next time you get the urge to pick up a pint of ice cream, relax and follow these three steps!
