Besides being a phenomenal singer, Lena Horne will forever be noted in the history of fashion as a Fashion Icon. Lena’s style can be described as sultry, glam, and incredibly enticing. She was often seen in something form fitting. The off of the shoulder style was her signature style. She knew how to draw emphasis on her best features especially her long legs and her perfect waistline. Although the icon quit school when she was 14, Ms. Horne got her first stage job at 16, dancing and later singing at the infamous Cotton Club in Harlem. Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington always made sure she was in good hands at the club. They took her under their wings. Lena was the first black entertainer to sign a long-term contract with Metro-Goldwyn Mayer, a major studio in Hollywood. She toured many venues all around the United States, Canada, and Europe. The fashion icon became a household name after her appearance on a number of variety shows and was nominated for a Tony Award for her role in musical, Jamaica.
