The news of Chris Kelly’s death was a shock to many of us who grew up listening to these catchy rappers who were around our age at the time. We “jump, jump”ed and “missed the bus” right along with them, some even went so far to wear certain clothing items backwards. Kriss Kross was most definitely a great part of our childhood that will never be forgotten.
On Wednesday evening, tragedy stuck when one half of the duo, Chris Kelly, was found unresponsive in his home and was later pronounced dead at an Atlanta hospital. As details are beginning to surface, the unfortunate truth that a drug overdose likely killed Kelly is, in fact, a possibility.
According to the report, Kelly’s mother, Donna Kelly Pratte, spoke to the investigating officer and said that Chris had taken a mixture of heroin and cocaine the night before. In the report, Pratte said she had brought Kelly home to “recover from his drug use and [that he] had done this several times in the past.”
The surviving member of the rap duo, Chris Smith penned a note to fans expressing the loss he’s suffered.
“Chris Kelly was my Best Friend. He was like a brother,” wrote Smith, known as Daddy Mac, in a statement, according to E! Online. “I love him and will miss him dearly. Our friendship began as little boys in first grade. We grew up together. It was a blessing to achieve the success, travel the world and entertain Kris Kross fans all around the world with my best friend. It is what we wanted to do and what brought us happiness. I will always cherish the memories of the C-Connection. KRIS KROSS FOREVER, the ‘MAC DADDY’ and ‘DADDY MAC.'”
Well wishes to the friends and family of Chris Kelly in these hard times.
