Take Kontrol: Walking vs. Running

The age-old question is which one is better walking or jogging? The truth is it doesn’t really matter just get moving.

Kontrol Tip: Stretch your calves by standing 2-3 feet facing the wall. Take a step forward with the right foot and keep the toes pointed forward. Keep the left knee straight and gently bend the front right knee until you feel a mild stretch. Switch sides.

Walking and running are ideal ways to enjoy nature and save your coins. It’s totally free and you don’t need a gym membership. Walking and running have a lot of the same health benefits like lowering blood pressure and high cholesterol. They are a perfect way to tone your body and you can add walking weights to increase the burn. You will burn more calories running rather than walking but you will put more stress on the body and you will be at risk for injuries. Avoid leisure walking and pump up your heart rate by power walking. Power walking is walking at a fast pace with expanded arm movement.

Kontrol Tip: Stretch your quadriceps by standing straight with your left hand on the wall. Bend the right knee and bring your right foot back toward your hips. Use your right hand to help you feel a mild stretch. Switch sides.

Walking or running may be the last thing you want to do after a hard day at work. You’re stressed and possibly in a bad mood. I get it. You may not feel like doing it at the beginning but completing a minimum of 30 minutes can release stress and improve your mood. Invite your happy hour crew to go walking or running with you. You can improve your day and motivate your family and friends to be active at the same time.

Kontrol Tip: Stretch your hamstrings and lower back by slowly leaning forward. Keep your legs straight and touch your toes.
