In last decade or so we’ve seen an explosion of hair care products created especially for natural African American hair. Cantu and Crème of Nature, are just a few of the products that I used when I began my natural hair journey 4 or so years ago. It can understandably be trying to figure out what product to land on. Personally, I never go for a new thing just because its endorsed by a mega-star like Taraji P. Henson, but I think Taraji putting her name on the Black hair-care market is a great thing. Her new hair-care line, TPH by Taraji is now available at Target stores. I can’t wait to get my hands on some for a review.
Quoted from the Hollywood Reporter, Taraji explained “I had been living with this formulation and traveling around with my little weird mix for about two decades.” The golden globe winner went on to say that the mix was created out of a need to protect her hair from the wear of changing wigs and weaves. Taraji hadn’t initially decided to create a line until some of her friends had tried her homemade mix while traveling and loved the results. Taraji has done an amazing thing, and I’m happy to see that she’s using this as a gentle way to address the clear need for better hair-care standards of African American hair in Hollywood. Taraji worked with Maesa (a beauty engineer) to help bring her vision to life. TPH by Taraji offers a shampoo, conditioner, curl refresher, a clay and a hair mask, as well as a hair milk, a heat protectant and oil blend.
