For those of you that don’t know, the Met Ball is the celebration of the Metropolitan Museum’s fashion exhibit at the Costume Institute. Likely one of the few nights of the year when more dramatic evening wear is accepted, the Met Ball celebrates both the art and free expression in fashion and attract some of the hottest names in music and film.
Gwyneth Paltrow:
Recently given title of most beautiful woman in the world by People Magazine, Gwyneth surprised onlookers in a metallic pink gown by Valentino. While, I personally didn’t care for this get-up, Gwyn pull it off better than most women would have. It also doesn’t hurt that she has a close friendship with the legendary designer himself.
Beyonce:
Ms. Carter, as she’s more recently being referred to, seems to have drawn inspiration from her newly released single–standing on the sun. There doesn’t seem to be too much that the diva can’t get away with, let alone pull off. Her fiery gown by Riccardo Tisci (Givenchy) will no doubt have everyone talking into tomorrow. As renowned as Beyonce is for her voice, I find myself unable say the same for her sense of taste.
Emma Watson:
She’s come a long way from her spell-casting days at Hogwarts. Seemingly always stunning, there’s a sense of understated elegance about her that keeps her among the world’s best dressed.
Nina Dobrev:
It’s always interesting watching child-hood actresses evolve into adulthood. The Monique Lhuillier gown she wore was both a grown-up and youthfully elegant choice.
Jennifer Lopez:
Always the perfect combination of sex and sophistication, Jennifer never seems to look bad. However, it wasn’t the dress alone that gave the wow factor, but rather the combination of hair, silhouette, and accessories.
Amanda Seyfried:
While she may not have fully made her claim to fame like her other Mean Girls co-star Lindsay Lohan or Rachel McAdams. Seyfried consistently makes smart choices. The eye catching Givenchy gown she wore was a good combination of drama and elegance.
Alicia Keys:
I found myself surprisingly disappointed with Alicia’s choice; I suppose we’re all allowed a few mistakes here and there. The custom-made Jason Wu gown did little to nothing for the soul-singer. She’s known for her smart red-carpet selections, but this however won’t be counted as one of them.
Ivanka Trump:
Elegant, sophisticated, and powerful make a dangerous combination, particularly when you’re talking about someone as fabulous as Ivanka Trump. Wearing Juan Carlos Obando, a thigh-high slit combined with spiked gold cuffs make a statement few can pull off so well.
Madonna:
For those of you who’re familiar with comic book villains, pop icon Madonna did a spectacular job of channeling Teen Titans super-villain Madame Rouge.
Kim Kardashian:
Finding the right stylist is a lot like finding the right guy, Kim has clearly had trouble in both areas of life. Granted she’s still maintained her beauty throughout this pregnancy, but it would have been in her favor to call upon the expertise of Hollywood’s #1 Stylist Kate Young, who’s famously dressed red carpet heavy hitters like Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams. Better luck next time, Kim.
