Ok so February is finally upon us and aside from what some anti-black enthusiasts (that’s what we’ll just call them lol) oh and of course Stacey Dash, may oppose of its Black History Month. That special time of the month where we not only remind ourselves of how far we’ve come as a race and culture, but the world as well. Throughout all of our accomplishments, adversaries, high moments and struggles in the past decades and still to this day, February is our month to remind ourselves and the world of just that plus more. Talk about a culture shock! Black people are iconic for our many contributions to this planet, from technology, inventions, entertainment and definitely our style and grace. We are the original OG’s of trendsetting and style. I mean look at what’s hot today, corn roll braids with the loose ends, faux locs, not to mention the whole evolution of the street style. “I know you don’t think a white girl made that shit up.” (In my Isis from “Bring it On” voice). Yes, black culture has been mainstream, check your fashion history. Any who, just a brief culture rant you guys, now back to what’s popping. One popular sportswear giant has decided to dedicate its latest collection in honor of Black History Month dubbed “The Power of One”, Nike. According to some sneaker blogs out there this isn’t new for the mega sportswear dynasty. The brand has been unleashing a special line up of sneaks around the month of February since 2005. However it’s never looked as strong or culturally influenced until now, with bold, vibrant colors, as well as vivid pan African patterns. According to Nike, powerhouse athletes like Serena Williams, Kobe Bryant, Sanya Richards-Ross and Chris Paul inspired this year’s Black History Month Collection. The 28 piece collection includes popular sneakers ranging from Jordans to Roshes, apparel items and accessories. Nike has already began releasing some of the collection in phases which will end in mid-February. Head on over to Nike.com and check out this dope collection. Plus with very purchase you make, proceeds will benefit Nikes Ever Fund, Which brings sports and mentorship to under deserved kids around the world. Get into it guys, and don’t forget to stay up to date with the latest on men’s fashion and trends. Got to blast! – EffYeahMark
