We all watched CrazySexyCool in amazement as we saw the young, naïve girl group get completely shafted by “Pebbles” (the wife of L.A.Reid, co-founder of LaFace Records). The girls were duped into signing a bogus record deal which basically meant that even after selling millions upon millions of album… they were still broke. The biopic not only told the tale of the most successful girl group of all time, but also served as a warning to upcoming artists – how not to get screwed over by your label. So it is a complete shock to hear that Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins are signing with L.A. Reid for a second time.
T-Boz had this to say to LATimes.com:
“You’re always going to disagree about something. It’s a damn record label and he was running it. Of course you’re going to have ups and downs. And just like anybody else, we cuss him out when need be,” Watkins offered. “But it feels natural, like home. It’s a new day and time. We’re putting LaFace back on the map — again.”
Though eyebrows may well be raised at the decision, it would be near impossible for the LaFace to give TLC a bum deal after the much publicized exposure which did not paint L.A. Reid or his wife “Pebbles” in a positive light. Let’s hope everything’s all good second time around.
The album will be a tribute to Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes.
