The Transformers are back! Yep it is time to witness another slap down between the heroic Autobots and their human allies against the villainous Decepticons. This time around, however, there really is “more than meets the eye” as Optimus Prime has gone rogue, becoming a “Nemesis” to all mankind in Transformers: The Last Knight!
The story picks up where the last film left off with Prime heading to Cybertron to meet his maker–literally. He arrives on his dying world to meet Quintessa, a female transformer and his creator. With a slap she seemingly brainwashes him into helping her revive Cyberton at Earth’s expense. Back on Earth, war rages between the world’s militaries and Transformers as waves of them continue to come to the planet. All Transformers, including, the Autobots are deemed enemies. Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg), continues to stand by his Autobot comrades, finding refuge in a junkyard on Indian territory by “hiding in plain sight.” However, uneasy alliances are formed when an ancient Cybertronian staff that grants its wielder immense power comes into play. Quintessa wishes to use it to restore Cybertron while Cade, Bumblebee, and a few ancient Transformers must come together to literally keep worlds from colliding!
This has to be one of the better Transformers films we have seen. The action started as soon as the film began with more explosions and gunfire than you can imagine. You would think we would be tired of seeing Optimus Prime vs. Megatron over and over again, but you would be wrong, especially when more nefarious beings are coming into play like Unicron! We are actually surprised though at how much we liked having Mark Wahlberg back in action as our resident human hero, but he did a great job. We definitely prefer seeing him over Sam Witwicky (Shia LeBeouf)! Transformers: The Last Knight may mark Michael Bay’s last film in the franchise, but the universe of Transformers is only going to get bigger. We have to wonder though, what’s bigger than metal, flame-breathing dinosaurs and three headed mechanical dragons?
Be sure you catch Transformers: The Last Knight in a theater near you tomorrow Wednesday, June 20th! Happy viewing!
