You may not know him, but you have seen his work. Vernon Francois sits down with Kontrol.
Vernon Francois is a world renowned, award winning hair stylist. With years of experience under his belt, he is taking hair care for all hair textures to a new level with his new hair care line.
The Start
Vernon’s start with hair began at a very early age. On a designated day, he and his family would get their hair done by his mother. After awhile, he started to learn how to braid his own hair. From there, anything that could be braided, he would braid. From curtains to doll hair, Francois worked diligently on becoming proficient at braiding.
One fateful day, he and his mother were out and about when someone wanted her to be a recipient of a makeover. His mother agreed, only on the contingency that they let Vernon work in the salon. His mother got the makeover and he got to work in the salon at age 14. With his curious nature and likeability, he became a valued asset in the salon. After gaining years of experience, Francois took his talents all over Europe as a freelance hairstylist.
Going Solo
When asked if there was any apprehension about going off to be a freelancer, Francois stated that his only concern was still being able to make ends meet like previously. This seems to be a part of the transition for anyone moving into a different phase in their career. Luckily, he was able to keep things moving in a forward direction.
Next up, Paris, Oslo, Amsterdam and Prague for clients. Throughout his working tour of Europe, Francois was able to encounter and style multiple types of hair and textures. Using his years of practice, Francois was able to wow clients. Still, many people had questions and concerns about their hair and how to take care of it. What better way to answer their questions and concerns by releasing a hair care line!
The Vernon Francois Hair Care Line
In an effort to reach all of his clients and people in search of an answer to their hair care needs, Francois launched his line. The process was a combination of years of work in the salon, travel and years of development. Although the line is fairly new, it’s always evolving. While in the first wave of products, the goal is to hydrate and repair hair. One of the great features of the line are the icons used to help identify the best products for your curl pattern/ hair type. Also, there are even items for hair in need of repair. The line is available online and at Sephora.
What’s Next
Vernon Francois is still growing his hair care line and the second phase of the line will include products to help style the hair. Also in the works is a YouTube channel that will allow people to come together to discuss their hair care needs. Francois will also continue to work with his A-List clients (Solange, Ava DuVernay, Lupita Nyong’o, Ruth Negga and Denee Benton) and travel the world for continuous education for all things hair.
