In grand, and expected style, former N.W.A. rapper turned actor, Ice Cube has refused to stop performing his group’s hit song, Fuck Tha Police! Ice Cube was approached by a TMZ reporter while heading through security at the airport, and when asked would it come off his set list due to the lyrics: “I’m a sniper with a hell of a scope. Taking out a cop or two, they can’t cope with me.” The reporter is directly referencing recent violence against policemen, especially the shootings in Dallas where a sniper killed seven cops!
Ice Cube stated:
“I ain’t gonna change nothin’ I do. ‘Cause I ain’t doin’ nothin’ wrong!”
Ice Cube is definitely well within his rights to continue performing his song, and as we saw in the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, he has been a victim of police brutality on multiple occasions. Besides, this song was released back in 1988, nearly thirty years before these recent tragedies. Naturally, right wing conservatives and Fox News, namely Bill O’Reilly, have criticized the rapper’s decision, feeling it is reckless and promotes violence against law enforcement.
We personally feel Ice Cube should do what he feels is best. He is not condoning violence against cops, but as aforementioned he definitely can understand the pain of the people. He is grounded, and not too far removed from his experiences on the mean streets of Compton, California! You can hear Fuck Tha Police in the video below!
