Earlier this week, there were rumors swarming across the social media field that Virgil Abloh was a head runner for Givenchy’s Creative Director position following the abrupt exit of former Creative Director Riccardo Tisci. Well as of today, Givenchy has spoken and dispelled all speculation.
Abloh will not be the brand’s new Creative Director.
A huge bummer right? How awesome would it have been to have someone like Abloh and his creative take on street style fashion to be the head of such a huge luxury fashion house like Givenchy? The fashion house’s spokesperson cleared up all rumors and speculation with a statement given to WWD: “Mr. Abloh was not approached by the house and is not to join the organization.” Having also added that “Givenchy’s new creative organization will be communicated shortly.”
With that being said, the OFF-WHITE designer has not skipped a beat. In fact, Abloh is planning to launch his brand (“case study“) to an even greater level. “My trajectory is to update and provide something new in the fashion industry by way of creating a project and using it as a case study on how to update a luxury house,” said Abloh to WWD in a previous statement. Check out his lecture “Everything in Quotes” down below.
In conclusion, fashion fans will just have to wait for the big announcement of who will carry on Tisci’s legacy. Until then, however, don’t forget to check out Abloh’s creative greatness over at Off-White and also be on the lookout for “case study” dropping in the near future. We’ll definitely keep you all updated as new information comes through. Your dope for reading.
