There is a new school on the block ladies and gents and we are talking about The Bailey Agency! The biggest fashion capital in the world, Paris, is opening the doors to a new fashion school for the next generation of designers and fashionistas. Dubbed the “public elite university for fashion” by Fleur Pellerin, France’s Prime Minister of Culture, it is the brainchild of the École nationale supérieure des Arts Décoratifs, Mines ParisTech and Paris Dauphine University. The school is expected to officially open its doors in September of 2016.
According to Pellerin, “the landscape of higher education programs for professions concerning fashion and luxury in France lacks legibility and structure…There are about 60 programs, only 13 of which are public and their direction varies greatly… creation, production and fashion management will be united under one umbrella, leading students all the way to a master’s degree if desired.” The decision to open the new fashion school was based on a “humiliating weakness” the nation realized in comparison to its neighboring countries. Lyn Cohen-Solal was charged with creating a report on the fashion industry and learned that all the finalists of French fashion shows in 2015 hailed from three foreign schools, Central Saint Martins in London, La Cambre in Brussels and Aalto University in Helsinki.
Well finally we have some good news for gay Paris! Now if a few the other fashion capitals of the world would also wisen up and open a few more fashion schools. There is a ton of undiscovered talent out there, many of them with raw talent that simply needs refining.
