Worried about Rosacea? Here’s What You Can Do About It

Worried about Rosacea? Here’s What You Can Do About It

The skin condition rosacea causes flushing or blushing and visible blood vessels in your face. It can also cause small bumps that resemble acne. While the condition can affect anyone, rosacea most commonly affects people between the ages of thirty and sixty, and especially women with fair skin. If you are worried about rosacea, there are thankfully several things you can do about it. There are treatments available to help clear up the skin condition and you can make small changes to help avoid getting rosacea.

Worried about Rosacea? Here’s What You Can Do About It

Rosacea Medication Treatments

Effective medication treatments for rosacea have come a long way in recent years, but the treatment that works best for you is very much dependent on the signs and symptoms you are experiencing and your specific skin type. For mild to moderate rosacea, you could use a topical drug in the form of a gel or cream that you apply to the affected area of the skin. For moderate to severe rosacea, you could be prescribed oral antibiotics like doxycycline. If you have severe rosacea and do not respond to other treatments, your doctor could prescribe you an oral acne drug, like isotretinoin, which helps to clear up the acne-like lesions of severe rosacea.

Customized Treatment

In order to find the best treatment for you, it is highly recommended that you complete a consultation with a qualified dermatologist. Once the dermatologist knows more about your skin type, your condition, and your lifestyle, a specially formulated treatment can be produced for your precise needs. The personalized treatment from Nava MD is particularly recommended. You simply need to complete a short online consultation before a customized and dermatologically designed treatment is sent to you in the mail.

Laser Therapy Treatment

Another less commonly used treatment is laser therapy. This treatment is best reserved until you have tried every other option as it does come with risks as well as benefits. Side effects can include swelling and bruising, and on dark skin, the treatment could cause long-term discoloration of the skin. However, laser therapy is good at making enlarged blood vessels less visible, though the full effects of the treatment might not be noticeable for weeks and repeat treatments could be required.

Self-care Tips

There are lots of little things you can do to treat rosacea and help avoid getting it besides going down the medication and treatment route. Here are some of the most helpful tips to try:

  • Use a redness-reducing cleanser every day, but do not scrub your face while cleansing as that could aggravate your skin.
  • If your skin is dry or sensitive, use an unperfumed moisturizer.
  • When drying your face, let it dry naturally or blot your face, to ensure you do not cause too much abrasion to your skin.
  • Avoid perfumed soap and alcohol-based products.
  • Use sunscreen with a sun protection factor of at least thirty and wear a hat when it is a sunny day to ensure you minimize damage to your skin from the sun.
  • Avoid stimulants like spicy food, caffeine, and alcohol.
  • Avoid stress by using relaxation techniques and doing things like yoga and meditation.
  • Avoid skincare products that contain ingredients that can make skin conditions like acne and rosacea worse.

Are you self-conscious with your rosacea?

If you are self-conscious about your rosacea, you can always use suitable cosmetics to hide your condition. Get advice from a makeup specialist to find out what the best options are for your skin. You also need to ensure the makeup you use does not include ingredients that make your rosacea worse. Makeup is a good temporary solution, but if you regularly suffer from rosacea, you should get advice and treatment from a professional dermatologist.
